I will be on vacation starting today until Sunday, July 27th, which is also Lo's birthday. He'll be two this year. Anyway, I won't be updating this blog until then. Wait. I might make a "quickie" update here and there, I have always loved "quickies" in places that aren't familiar to me...
Okay so thank you very much and peace and respect to you and yours...
Oh yeah, the Tilly And The Wall show was really great. They were very good live. I also enjoyed hearing the opening band, The Om Nom Noms. They are from Denton.
KTHXBAI....
Tilly And The Wall are playing tonight at the Granada. I'mma 'bout to leave for the show, actually. I'll give a full report of it later. Until then, enjoy this new track from their new album:
Here's one of their older, more classique songs from their 2006 recording, Bottoms Of Barrels:
Peace and 'spect...
...consisted of waking up at 5:ish and straightening up the house from the family fun of the weekend, getting the kids up and ready to go, driving to Ardmore, Sucklahoma to drop off Lo, hide my crying from Claire on the way back to Dallas, drop off Claire at her mama's, change clothes (while driving), go to work for 8 hours, change clothes (while driving...again. I know...), help friends move into a new apartment, realize there's an upright piano and five collective flights of stairs involved, finish the job and then drive back home 'round nearly 10:00 at night.
By mid-day, I was singing the chorus to this song in my head:
Gah...why do I always forget about this band? They're pretty good. I mean, I constantly hear about them because they are total indie-press darlings and all the scenesters go ape-shit for them. But really, they're pretty damn cool and musically, they are interesting and fun.
Anyway, enjoy the rest of yer night or morning or whatev...
Big news = I got a new tattoo. Katie and I went the other night and I nearly fainted because I hadn't eaten anything. Lolz...
I have a new musical crush. Uffie is from Miami, Florida but based in Paris, France and she's hella fierce! She has tons of new tracks on her website (listen to them all) but this one is my absolute fav. This is as raw as electro-beat dance shit gits these days. It feels like the entire production was done on at home on her computer and that's a major compliment. Lyrically she's silly, but it's so much fun it doesn't matter. Prepare to shake yer asses, I'm just warning you:
Okay so I've been wanting to post this for a long time now, but I thought you all would hate it/me. I don't know how many of you like this new age (or No Age, lolz) of lo-fi that is upon us, but I definitely do. It's probably an "acquired taste" but if you do decide to give this a chance, be sure to crank it up as loud as you can stand it. You want it to be as distorted and hissy as possible. That's where the feeling is.
The Notwist is a weird indie electro-rock band from Munich. This is their new single from their new EP. There is a huge chance this is going to be on my ten best list at the end of the year. For some reason, I love this song with everything I've got. Play it as loud as possible for full effect:
Montreal's Wolf Parade have a brand new record called At Mount Zoomer. It was released a couple of weeks ago from Sub Pop and it's pretty marvelous. It's hard to believe that this is only their second full-length recording, but hey, I'll Believe In Anything.
Here are a couple of my favorite anti-war songs, a perfect companion to this day of independence:
